Review:
Wedding Reception with totally vegan buffet and bar
When we decided to have our Hand-fasting in Glastonbury, on the Tor, we approached the King Arthur as a venue for our reception party. We knew the pub as a venue and felt very comfortable there, so it was an obvious choice and we wanted something that was a little different to the average wedding reception. We gave them the challenge of providing a totally vegan menu and Lois and her team absolutely blew us away with what they produced. We really wanted to show our non-vegan guests how good vegan food could be, and so many commented on how amazing the food was. Not only that, we had our own bar in the venue that was totally vegan, including two delicious vegan ales.
We brought some of our own decor with us and spent the morning adding an autumnal theme to the venue, with ivy, maple leaves, LED candles and fairy lights. Manager, Sandi, and her staff carried on adding to the decor while we were off getting hand-fasted on the Tor. When we arrived back to the evening event it was like walking into a magical fairyland! Everywhere was festooned in autumnal foliage, there were occasional tables dotted around the venue with the LED candles and decor on them, it looked absolutely beautiful. We also had the use of the ‘secret garden’ so the guests could escape from the heat and noise of the main party. We couldn’t have hoped for a better event, it was just magical. Will, our sound guy, also deserves a mention. He was very accommodating and provided great sound for our band, The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet (who played a stunning set), and all night… even adding some live effects to the mix, which sounded great. Having worked all day the day before, prepping the food, and most of the day of the event, Lois and her team (sorry, I didn’t get the names of the other girls) then manned the bar all night, with such a lovely, friendly energy. Wow, how brilliant!
The next day, we met up with many of the guests, back at The King Arthur, for Sunday roast. You have to book because there are only 40 places. Again, Lois and her team smashed it! Wow! What an improvement to the last time I ate in the King Arthur (a few years ago). Lois and Sandi have put such a positive energy into The King Arthur since they’ve been in charge. It gets better every time I visit. It must be my favourite pub in the country!
If you are thinking of having a special event, a wedding or hand-fasting in Glastonbury, I would absolutely recommend The King Arthur and it’s wonderful staff who looked after us so well. Perfect for the kind of event that’s a bit more ‘rock n roll’ than the average wedding reception. Cool as…! I know this review sounds a bit gushy, fab, OTT, but in this case, it was well deserved!
